MATTERS POLITICAL.
It is stated in Wellington that the Government claim a distinct following of .'V">, without; any doubtfuls, and there are decided indications that they have p'.it aside their first intention of resigning, and will light Urn .natter out vi Parliament when it meets. This, at any rate, is the wis.i of mimi! members of the Cabling, who make no secret of their beliof that they will have a majority by this time the new House meets. As (,■> when this will be, nothing can now bs said fur certain, but it seems to be quite ou the cards that it will be much later than January 15th, for instructions which wero given yesterday, to prepare Parliamentary buildings at oncK, have since been countermanded. Ministers are fully determined to exercise their right to make appointments to the Council. They say it is always done in England, and that in former years they have used their privileges more sparingly than other < roveruments. They also contend that the Council has not enough working members ro get through its business properly, and that it is absolutely necessary to put in some new mon. AmntiK those whoso claims are likely to be favourably considered are Messrs Orniond, Whyte, Dowuio Stewart, Samuel, Fulton, Montgomery, Vincent Pykc, and Sir Maurice O'RorUo. As most of the Ministers aro Koniß home for the Christinas holidays, tomorrow will probably see the liual decision come to on this question. (IJY TJSLKCJKAnr.—f'KKSd .ASSOCIATION.)
