ROAD TO THE CAVES.
TO THK EDtTOIt. Sin,—As the holidays are approaching I believe many people are contemplating a visit to tho beautiful Waitomo caves ; but some of us are in doubt as to the state of the road. lam aware that there is a good horse track all the way, but ladies would prefer to drive. When I was up last summer the Government were making a road from Hangitiki to the caves, and I believe that road is now completed and quite safe for wheeled traffic. Tho difficulty is the road between Otorohanga and Hangitiki. I am told by one person that this part of the road i» altogether unfit for wheeled traffic, while auother party informs me that he had driven over the road without difficulty some months ago. Perhaps some of your readers could give reliable information oil this subject. I feel certain that many people would take a trip to the caves were they sure of finding no difficulty in getting there, and I have no hesitation in recording my opinion that they are the finest sight our country pjsnesßea. It seems a pity that the Government, after spending so much money, should not have made a good road all the way.—Yours, &c. _______
