iNsi'KcnoN' or Machiskkv. —Wo received a visit on Friday last from Mr Dobson, Government Inspector of machinery. Tilt Inspector looked over the butter fnctory, and Mr Corboy's, and tho Karakariki flax mills. The factory machinery was passed all right, but owing to the dil'ty water unavoidably used some time ago, a few of the boiler tubes require thoroughly cleaning out. . Law.v Tennis Club.—At a meeting of the Lvwn Tennis Club, held on Friday evening, it was decided to fence in a suitable piece of land, and put it m order at once. The spot chosen is on tho lower river terrace, close to tho bridge, and shaded by large willows. Newcastle Road District.— A petition to merge the Newcastle road district into the Waipa County, thus doing away with the Road Board, is being taken round for signature. This action is probably the outcome of similar movements in other districts. Whether it would be found mors suitable for Newcastle is a question upon which, so far as I can learn, public opinion is pretty fairly divided. Tho actions of the Newcastle Road Board in the past have not always been characterised by the strict principles of justice, hut certainly during the last few yeats the Board has shown an honest disposition to assist everyone, so fai as their means would allow. Whether they have succeeded or not can only be judged by the fact that there have been very few complaints of late.
