Sin,—l notice in your issue of Tuesday a correspondent signing himself "A Subscriber " asking the very pertinent question, "What has become of the funds subscribed towards tho legal expenses of a youn? man who was tried some months back for assaulting the Observer correspondent?" After the case had been disposed of by the magistrate a note '.was put into my hand asking me to send the statements contained therein to the Observer for publication. Tho statement in question was to the elfeet that the employees of tho late Waikato News had voluntarily subscribed towards paying tho legal expenses of Mr J.
