KMVAKAWA, Last Night. When found, he held some of the horse's mane in one hand and his whip in the other.

CHRISTCHUKUH, Last Night. Tho Criminal sittings open on Monday. There are nine cases against twelve prisoners, including manslaughter, shooting with intent, concealment of birth, and breaking and entering. This morning a deputation from the Wharf Labourers' Union waited on the Committee of the Stevedoring Association and requested that the affairs with regard to thc_ employment of wharf labourers might be restored to the position they were in before the strike. They were informed that the Association could not do this, but union men wcro being employed, and no difference was made. The luayor of Lyttelton and some members of the Borough Council waited on the Stevedores' Association Committee, and requested them to employ unionists out of work. The committee pointed out that though they could not dismiss the free labourers who had helped them through the recent difficulty, they were employing many unionists; and the latter were earning moro than tho free labourers, and that last week the uuioaists' earnings exceeded those of the freo labourers by over tIOO. ,
