Tho German squadron stoamod out ititthe Straits this m«rning for tho purpose "1 target practice with tha big guii6, and returned to port at dusk. Tho Butchers Employees' Conference closed to-day. Tt was decided to disithliate from all Trades Councils throughout the colony, and to form a new Association to be called the New Zealand federal Butchers Employees Union, having its head quarters in Wellington. A number ot the permanent staff of tho Harbour Board labourers who wont out on strike have applied to thu Hoard to be reengaged. The Board said they could do nothing iu the matter, as they had retained the freo labourers in their service. The Federated Trades Council have passed u resolution to the effect that a joint committee should be appointed in each city of the colony, for the purposo of •»rbitration on all differences effecting the trades connected with the Employers' Association or the Trades Council, and by conciliatory methods prevent strikes.
