RAGLAN.
The Finny Tribe.—Not only have wo had two whales cast upon our shores north of Raglan, along the Te Akau side, and upon which the natives have been busy oil petting and whalebone securing, but also in the harbour largo numbers of black fish or black pnrpoiseH have been seen of late. On the morning of Wednesday last, josf before the polling began tor tho riding election a largs number of these fish were seen swimming up the harbour. Our harbour now swarms with fish, waiting no doubt, to be caught by some of our Waikato friends who are tuch excellent fishermen and take such keen pleasure iu the sport.
S.S. Gr.ENELf:.-The Northern Company's steamer aivivcd here on I'riday last. from Wellington, having undeigouo cleaning and repairs. >ihe steamed tip totho wharl »nd took on board ab'.ut L'OO bales of flax. wool and other produce. I'rocoediiig down tho Harbour she. tuok on board from tho Te Akau stores more limn smother two hundred bales, making live hundred bales of flax shipped by her from this place for the Auckland market. The rise in flax will be most acceptable to our mill owners, but hitherto most, if not alitlie mills have been kept in full swing. Wkathkk.— A week ago wo had one of the fiercest gales followed a few days after by heavy rain. Since then ive seemed to have jumped at onco into warm summer weather. Another change seems coming in and rain not far off again.
Cnoi'S.—lirass is everywhere abundant, oats aro looking well, and potatoes where not rotted in tho ground by the heavy flood*, or beaten to pieces by the gales are looking well. New potatoes are abundant. Garden stuff has been kept back, but is now recovering. Orchards.— The rough weathor has in many parts much injured the fruit prospect. Trees covered with blossom before the Irish winds prevailed, and showing every indication of good returns, have now in many cases but littlo fruit upon them, whilst in sheltered spots the trees are giving better promise. Small fruits are doing well tins season, and all tin young trees purchased either from Mr Sharp at his sale here, or those procured from other parts are looking healthy, and never iu any year past hat: so much land being laid down in orchard before.
