ALEXANDRA.
Postal Auiungemknth. — The proposed change in the postal arrangeinentsheve will bo a serums blow to Alexandra if carried out. Hitherto our mails have come through Te Awamutu by coach, ■Mγ Finch being the contractor, and he has carried out, his contract most faithfully. Now it i:> proposed that tho mails for hero come via Ohaupo by horse. This moans that lu;nceforth travel kit. and others will have no moans of conveyance between here and the railway us the traffic will not pay the running of ;i coach without the mail subsidy. The tender accepted from Ohaupo is said to be €1!) p;r annum, while the sum hitherto paid to our coach mail from Te Awanmtu was £13. By the new arrangement we will nut only bo deprived of tho opportunity of anewering oi.r letters by return mail as our letters will have to lay over till next day at Ohaupo before being despatched, but there will be no conveyance for those passengers wishing to proceed by rail. As no apparent saving, or at least a very insignificant sum will be effected by this change vi:i Ohnnpn and Pateraugi, it is hoped the Post-otlice authorities, .in considering the great inconvenience of our nut having a public conveyance for passengers to the railway line will re-consider the matter, and nut interfere with the existing arrangements.
i'nuiT Phosi'Kuis.—The hopes expressed Ijere some little time ago,.of this being an exceptionally good year, for the fruit crop were somewhat premature, ns the strong winds we have so long experienced, appears to have pretty well thr.ishad oft' the young fruit, so that the crop here will be a small one.
Gam-:.—The irale here on Sunday night last was a tremendous one, doing considerable damage to trees and fences. At Kaipiha a strong acacia- tree, upwards of 50 years old, and three feet in diameter, was blown out by the roots.
