Gentlemen, — I deeply regret that at the last moment important family and business arrangements, which I am obliged to make before leaving England, have compelled me to remain here a little longer than I had intended. I am exceedingly sorry for this, although I fear that if I had arrived in Auckland on the Sth of November, as I fully expected to have done, I should have been too late for the Kleciton. Under these circumstances, if the contest has not already taken place, I must leave my candidature entirely in your hands. If you do me the honor to elect me during my absence, as a resident in the con • stituency, I shall at all times be ready to do my utmost to further your local interests ; and in your House of Representatives I shall also do my best to support those principles of Economy, Retrenchment, and Financial Reform, which seem tome to be essential to the future welfare and prosperity of your beautiful Islands. If, however, you do not on this occasion do me the honour to choose me as yonr Representative, I hope at the next Election to offer myself again as a Candidate for the Te Aroha District.
