Dkatii 01" Mb W. G. C.vssiN'.-Annther well known face has passed away from amongst us, viz., Mr VV. C. Uassin, who died at his residence here on Sunday lasrThe deceased in Hie early days of the Thames t'ioldlields, was one of tho maty ones, but subsequently was uuf >rtuna<;e, and lias for some years resided "J'"' ''; wife and family in this township. Althoußn the deceased was far from enjoying g oils health, his decease came on all as a surprise, an attack of inflammation of the lungs carrying liim otf in a fow days. The deceased leaves a large family, many of them of tender year.-. General sympathy is felt with Mrs Cassin in her bereavement, her own health at the present time rendering her circumstances the more painful. The funeral which was numerously attended, took place on Tuesday last, the Kev. Father Luck reading the service and performing the usual ceremonies. As lam writing, guns are being fired at Whatiwhatihoe, this means that another native has passed away at that settlement. Tun Wkathkr.— I The extremely rough weuther we have experienced here of late lias caused ft great fresh in the W aipa and its tributaries. Overland r,ravelling upcountry by Otorohanga is now iinpossitle or nearly so. The gales, at times have been very heavy, and it is to be feared injure the fruit crop- „ T . Mn Kuchk and " Intkgbity. —It s a strange fact that when correspondents ot a certain class) feel themselves bound to express their opinions in wiitingtoa newspaper of those who happen to differ from themselves in political matters, they almost invariably do so in an underhand manner, ns the writer in your last Tuesday s issue of Thk Waikato Timks, who wishing to give ,i sneer at Mr H. Roche, and an insulting insinuation against Your Uwn, has chosen to do so under the signature of " Integrity," a virtue that ho cannot certainly have the slightest claim to. " Integrity" ? gives no reuson whatever for his abusive letter. Only that it is a presumption for anyone to imagine tnat in the whole of thejWaikato electorate, it is.itnposaible to find a local man, with the honesty and ability necessary to represent the district in the next Parliament. Without the slightest disparagement to Mr John Bryce, ninny think there is, if they or one of them could be induced to come forward, men whose interests are at one with their constituent-. Is it not generally known that there are three or four gentlemen about Hamilton and Cambridge alone whoso position and character could be cavalled at by none, and who are in every way tit to do honour to the constituency. Ar to the reference made by "Integrity"? to Mr Roche, that gentleman requires no one to answer for him. It is well known that whatever subject Mr Roche may think proper to ventilate in the columns of The Waikato Times or elsewhere, he invariably signs his name to his letters, and is well known throughout the district to be a gentleman of the strictest integrity.
