The following are the current quotations for the principal silver mining shares at Broken Hill: -Proprietary, £13; British, £2 18s.; Central, £6 2s • North, £1 8s Gd; South, £4 16s 6d; Block, No. 14, £5 los; Block No. 10, £13 13s; Junction, £2 13s 6d. In the House of Assembly there was a good deal of unseemly squabbling over the position of the Speaker. Mr McMillan couitnenced to deliver his financial statement late this evening. He defended the Government from the accusation that they wished to appeal to the country during the present labour crisis, and contended that tho working men were not in a position to calmly consider fiscal matters. He explained that had it not been for the industrial crisis the revenue of tho colony for the last half year would have fully realisel the glowing anticipations. The delivery of the statement had not concluded when the telegraph office closed. Melbourne, October 16. Replying to a question in tho Assembly, as to whether the Orient Company hud refused to ship butter in tlio refrigerating chambers of their steamers, tho Minister of Lands said this had to be done in consequence of the pressure on space, ovviiig to tho demands of tho meat trado. He trusted to be able to make satisfactory arrangements with the Orient and P, and 0. companies and New Zealand steamers to obtain ample space.
