SPORTING.

The annual race meeting of the Paknranpa Hunt Club will be held on the Auckland Ricing Club's course, at Ellerslie to day. The Waikato horse, Costley, who won the treble at Cambridge, at the Hunt Club meeting last month, is engaged in the Members Hurdles and the Hunt Club Cup (steeples), and although he will have to meet better horses than he did in Cambridge, it is expected that ha will give a good account of himself, and if he does not score a win he will be very adj.icent. Air Tarnbull who r'jde him in Cambridge will again be in the saddle.

A meeting of the committee of the Smith Auckland Racing Club was held in Tub W.vtK.vTO Turns Buildings, on Thursday evening, when there was a Rood attendance. A ground committee- was'appointed to ansist thci Secretary in prepaiing tho distances jumps, etc., fur tin coming meeting. The donation to entitle a member of the club to become a life member was fixed at £10 10--, and there are already Home 12 or 15 who have sent in their names as life members. B.imi; other minor details in connection with tho arrangements for the Christmas meeting were discussed.

At a meeting of tho Cambridge Jockey Club, held at the National Hotel, hist Saturday (Mr Brenkell presiding), the balance-sheet was presented and passed, groat satisfaction being expressed at tho state of tho finances. Mr Bach tendered his leaignntion as secretary, but nt the unanimously expressed wish of the meeting, withdrew tho same. A general meeting will be held on this day week, at which the committee will be elected and the days of racing for the yoar will be fixed. It is generally understood that the 17th March will be one of the days, but nothing can be settled till after the next meeting. The Club is in a flourishing condition, and racing does not seem by any means dead in Cambridge at present. We have heard it mooted that Hamilton does not wish to have anything to do with Cambridge sportsmen, or there would have been someone to represent that district amongst the stewards of the South Auckland Club.
