ATTEMPTED SUICIDE AT KIHIKIHI
An , old soldier named William Molloy, a resident of Kihikihi from the early days of thu settlement, in now in custody at Tβ Awaniutu, for an attempt to commit suicide, which occurred on Wednesday last, thecauso as usual being attributed to an excessive drinkiii" bout, as thu unfortunate niiiu was sulltiring from an attack of delirum tremens whim attempting the rash act. An application was received by the Secretary of the Waikato Hospital from Constable Jones asking if tho sufferer could be admitted, this wo hear was refused, as there is no proper accommodation provided in the Hospital for sufferers in this state. Molloy has a wonderful record, he was with his regiment the siOth throughout the Indian Mutiny, and although engaged in no less than seventeen pitched battles, he escaped unwounded throughout the whole of the campaign. Molloy was also engaged at the capture of tho Orakau pa in 1804, where he was shot through the neck the bullet passing to the side of the windpipe and out at the tuck just missing the spine.
