ELECTION NEWS.

It is expected that the general election will not take place before November 23rd, The following copy of a requisition will be presented to Sir George Grey, on his arrival. Considering the present important juncture in ojr history, and tho approaching general election, wo the undersigned have the honour to request you to take an early opportunity to give an address on the existing position of public affairs, also with the view of affording jou an opportunity of explaining your views on the best course to adopt in tho futuro to relieve tho colony from its present embarassed and unsatisfactory condition. A deputation was appointed by the meeting. Mr Withy's old election committee, waited upon Mr Withy, to urge him to reconsider his expressed determination, not to allow himself to be re-nominated for the Newton seat. Mr Withy declined, on family grounds. (by telegraph.—prims association). Wki.h.vgto.v, Last Night. It is understood that Mr J. J. JJevine solicitor, will contest the city. On enquiry this evening the Premier stated that the date of the election would not be fixed until tomorrow. To-day is the date on which electoral rolls by law close, but the. supplementary rolls will be made up till the issue of tho writs. On the day thoy are signed a circulai telegram will be issued to all registration officers, who are then bound finally to close the rolls, and no fresh name can be put on, but those to which objection has been made can be struck off up to the day of the election.
The Premier has lately had much relief from insomnia, which was the cause of considerable distress by taking sulphonyl, and he states lie is in much bettor health in consequence. The doctors have, however, forbidden him to travel through his electorate as he proposed. Mr Mentaltli has made up his mind not to stand for Wellington. Ministers are in communication by telegrnph re the date uf tho election. It will be later than at first intended on account of the revision of the. rolls to a large extent. JJu.vkdin, Last Night. Mr Thomas Mason, of Port Chalmers, contests that seat in the labour inteicsts. Chuistchurch, Last Night. A petition to Parliament praying for the franchise to ba granted to woman is being largely signed in the city, Sir John Hull has announced himself as a candidate for Kllesinerc. Invkhcauoill, Last Night. Hon. Richardson arrived today but does not deliver any political address in the meantime. Oa.mauu, List Night. The electoral roll for tho O.unani district contains two thousand and sixty-one names, but there will probably b<3 a large supplementary roll. TIMAHU, List Night. Mr J. F. Sinithsoii, solicitor, stands for Timarn. There are 2,0815 names on the ptincina mil, but many more names have bnen given in since the roll Wiis nude ii|>. Bi.k.vkkim, Last Night. At n meeting of his old committee, on Saturday night, MrDodson announced that it was not his intention to stand again, ?nd he rec'iiiKimnded Mr Seymour, who has an-n-mnced his candidature, Mr S. ,1. MacAlister will also be a candidate.
