Mksshs Esam and Auihuk's Wkbki.y Rst'OHT.—Produce : The present week has been one of great activity in this depart ment, particularly in potatoes, which have within the last two days advanced fully £2 per ton. Up to Wednesday the top price for prime was £4 to £4 10h, to-d.iy we have quitted inferior at £3 15s to £4 ss, whilst prime we have sold at £"> 10s to £0. The continuance of thesa rates is entirely contingent on the prospects of an early settlement of the differences between the Union S.S. Company and their employees. In sympathy with potatoes, other produce has advanced. Onions : We had no first-class quality for to-day's auction ; there is a good demand. The same remarks apply to cheese ; inferior is difficult to sell. Bacon and hams in good demand ; supply has been good ; prices are fully Id to ljd better than last week. Salt butter has moved off freely, but at low rates. Fresh butter is also low. Fowl wheat: Supply groatly below the demand ; we sell readily consignments as they arrive. MARKET REPORTS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report as under :— Duskdin , , August 21.—Whent: There i.H a fair inquiry experienced, and, doubtless owing to the favourable tnne of the London market, there is nn difficulty experienced in placing any lines of bout milliner white velvet and Tuscan offering. Prime red straw is also saleable, but there is very little demand for nwdiuin, except fur fowls' wheat, which is now getting exceedingly icarce. We quote primu milling velvet and Tuscan at 3s < r >d to 3s 7d ; extra prime, a shade more; medium to good, 3s 2d to 3s Id ; inferior to medium, .scarce, 2a 10d to 3s 2d (ex Ktore, sacks weighed in). Oats: During the past week a much better demind has been expeiienced, and considerable Hales have bean carried into effect. Nenrly all the oats thnt agents have (up to the present) been free to still have been placed at about. Rquil to lite quotations, perhaps slightlv over in one or two instances where the quality has been extra piime. Stocks are s' ; ll uretty full, u'though considerably reduced lately. The b'lik of those in store now are medium ti (fund f««d only, very few good milling loti beinsj left <-n hand, and although buyers are in a nuind to further increase their purchases, they are not disposed to exceed prices lately current. At tlib moment '.here is a fair opportunity of placing good line, and, considering the quantity nf.ill unsold, it is somewhat questionable if prices will to any appreciable extent improve during the uext few months. We now quote best feed and milling, Is 3.Jd to Is td; extra prime, slightly over ; medium to gooa, 1« 3d to Is If.Jd ; inferior and musty, Is to Is 2Jd (ex store, sacks extra). There is very little demand for long oatH, except well grown and clean, suitable for seed.—Potatoes : The market continues weak, owing to th« supply being in excess of requirements. There is no dc.mind for shipment, and the business done is confined to the supplying of local wnnts. 15est price at auction this week for Diriw-nt* was 55s per ton (wicks weighed in).— Dairy product!: Prime salt butter still .■■CHV-β, und would readily spII »t 7d toM per 'b; medium, difficult to place at from 'Jd to 4d per lb. There is uo improvement in the demand for cheese, only very small parcels being placed in lh« local market at 3d to -id for medium and i|(J to ■!£d per lb for loaf. Cuulstckukch," August 2a.— Wheat : Market firm, with an upward tendenoy. A fair I'lisin'f-n \v\n been done during the week, Iwildnrs biking advantage of the present f-nhuncod values in onl»r to realise. Tuscan 3s 3Ad to 3s 4.W, Pmirl 3s 2d to 3s 3d, Hunter s 3s Id to 3s 2d per bushel, f.0.b., sacks extra. —Oats : Nr. miiterial change to note. Prime milling lines are in demand at our quotations. Prime milling Is 7d, stout feed Is (id : ordinary feed Is 3d tola 5d per bushel, f.0.b., sacks extra.— Potatoes : The position of this market continues without alteration pending settlement of shipping difficulties, no business doing except with conditional clause in contract re possibility of transit inside a specified time, Nominal value of Blue Derwents ia 40s per ton at country stations. —Dairy produce : Butter Sd to B.Jd per lb, cheese 3d to 3td per lb.
