WAIKATO DISTRICT HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held in the Borough Council Chambers, Hamilton, at 11 a.m. yesterday. There were present Messrs Primrose (chairman). Seddon, Anderson, Lang, Teasdale, McPherson, Sandes, Kallendor, Heaney, and Chepmell. Divink Skkvick.—The chairman stated that he had granted Rev. R. O'C Bigss permission to hold divine service in the refuge on each alternate Friday. Ihe action'of the chairman was approved of. Whkks.—Mrs Weeks wrote stating that the relief, 5s per week, granted to her was not sufficient and asking for more. The request was refused. Kak.—The House Steward t:> the Auckland Hospital wrote stating that MrsNorah Rae, wife of Hugh Rsie who has been employed at Mr J.imes Taylor's, Cambridge, for the last seven years, was admitted ir.to the Auckland Hospital, as an urgent case, on July 31 suffering from cancer of the stomach and omentum. Mr Anderson said that Mrs Rae left her husband about two years ago anol went to Auckland. The secretary was instructed to write to the Auckland Board to this etiect. RRLIKb\—A request trom Mrs Uurchcll of Waiorongomai for an increase of her relief —os per week—was refused. Mrs A. Blake, of Shaftesbury, wlmse husband left her eight months ago aud from whom she had not heard since, applied for some relief for her children. This case was referred to the police for their report. Skcbktaby's Rki'OHT.—The secretary's monthly report stated that 31 persons were receiving charitable aid and there were 12 inmates in the Refuge, two of whom were paying full rates, 7s per week, and one (id per diem. The funds of the Board are as follows: — £. s. d. Two tender? were received for tho uniform suits, and one for boots, for the inmates of the Refuse, viz. :—For suits, .f. (iilmonr, 475, 47s 3d, 3U and 42s ; and J. R. K. Hatriuk, 37s (id ; and fur boots, U. Salmon, 5s 4d. The House Committee recommended that the tenders of Me-srs Hntriclc and .Salmon be. accepted. Tho following tenders were received for the various Hospital endowments offered fur lease. L'it Jlili, Mungapikn, I. K. I )rtvidson. £2 per annum ; Lot 107, Te Rapa, J. Hunt, tills; Lot:> 4, li .rough of Cambridge, R TCirkwood. til. In conclusion the Secretary asked that some means be devised for less.'ning the cost of pumping, by the application of mechanical power, as notwithstanding the rain during the mouth, it had cost £1 Ilk—Mr Kallendar moved that the recommendation of the House Committee, with reference to the suits and boots bo adopted. Seconded by Mr Anderson and carried.—The various tenders for the Hospital endowments mentioned in tho report were accepted, and the question of the water supply was referred to the House Committee, to make enquiries into the probable cost of a hot air engine, and report at next meeting. The report was then adopted.
Doctor's Rkpokt.— The doctor's monthly report was read and adopted. In reply to Mr Chepinell. who asked why Gtiorgo Ames was discharged from the Hospital, the Secretary stated that he had beendischarged by the order of the doctor, as sntferiiisr from heart disease, and being incurable. Mr Heaney said chat he had offered to get Ames admission to the Refuge, but he had refused to go there. His people, who were well off in Wellington, had been communicated with.
Hot Watkk.—The Doctor drew the attention of the Board to the urgent necessity fur n hot water supply at the Hospital, for surgical purposes. The matter was referred to the House Committee, to report at next meeting. Rki.iki'. —The usual relief for the month was granted. This Wits nil the business
