WAIKATO FARMERS' CLUB.

Cambridge Branch.

The monthly meeting of the above Club was held at Cambridge, on Monday evening, Mr G. E. Clark presiding. There were also present: Messrs Jno. Fisher (vice chairman), J. Andeison, H. R. Hyatt, J. Forrest, K. Fisher, .I. < Jane, R. Reynolds, H. Buttle,.). Arnold, E. Allen, S. Seddon, C. Huberts, W. li. C. Williams, E. 15. Walker, J. 11. S. Richardson, Butler, V.isper, Wallace, sen., and jun., Tucker. G. Kunciman, Wheeler, T. Wells, l'Vewin, Selby, Ca!ey (2), A. McVickers, W. IS. Sonter, .7 sis. Hally, E. Hewitt, Jas. Kunsiinan, J. Fisher, jun., and F. J. Brooks. Nkw Mkmiikhs. —fhn following wore elected members of the Club, the two h'r-*t mentioned being present: Messrs W. B. White, H. J. Turner (Taotaoroa), Thos. Hannon, Chas. Bull, and R-jv. C. 11. Garland.

AtiitiiTi.Tuiui.Statistics.—A proof onpy of the papers for returns on the above subject, as prepared by Mr H. R. Hyatt, was referred back to the committee for some slight alterations that were deemed advisable.—The Opotiki, Mangero, and l'ukekiihe Farmers' Clubs had been asked to cooperate in this ni'ivumt'.nt, but replies bad not yet been received from Uieni. TiiK HoitsK I'auaih-:.— Mr J. McNi':ol having been asked if he could hold a bull fair upon the same day as his s-pecial horse sale, wrote from Oluuipn, under date of 22nd iimt:—Mγ linn intend holding a horse fair at Cambridge, on the liltli September, at noon, and also a horse jumping competition on the same day, at lO.iiO a.m. Tho dog trials I mentioned in iiiine of -2nd ultimo, 1 find impossible to have on the lame day as the stallion parade and horse fair, so shall have it on the morning following. Re bull fair. — I cannot see my way clear to hold a bull fair on the same day as special horse sale. It is out of season, for one thing ; a bull will not be in condition for sale at that time. J'Voni the middle to end of November I consider the time for a bull sale, and we intend holding a sale of bulls in Hamilton about that time. I may mention that Col. Carre intends being pre«ent at the horse parade and fair.—On the motion of Mr H. Buttle, the executive committee of the Club were appointed to superintend the horse parade, with power to add to their number.—The latter clause was inserted, as several members thought Mr McN'icol should be upon the committee, while others thought ho would rather his name was omitted, as he would have a superfluity of business on that day. l'lii/xs rait Hacks.—Mr Robt Visher said Mr McNicol hid suggested that the Club should give a first and second prize for the best weight carrying hack exhibited at the horso parade, and had not only made the suggestion but had backed it up by offering a donation of £3 3s in furtherance or the proposal. He (Mr Fisher) thought the cits and fillies that had been bred in Waikato during the past few years reflected great credit upon their sires and alio upon the breeders ; and at a time when the town would be full of visitors—especially when such a noted judge of horseflesh us Col. Carre would be present—he thought they would be very remiss if they did not exhibit some of their young stock and demonstrate that Waikato was not only able but was actually rearing horses of a first class stomp. He did not think the funds of tho Olub should be encroached upon for the purpose, but that the necessary amount should be raised by subscriptions.—The matter was verv r.oon settled as Messrs J. Arnold and S. Seddon volunteered to provide a second prize by giving £1 Is each.—lt was then resolved to gtve first and secmd prizes for the best 'A year old weight-carrying hacks (colt or filly) bred in Waikato. The parade committee and Mr R. Fisher to arrange matters connected therewith.

Hoitsi-: HuiJKDi.vi;.— The vice-chairman (Mr .1n... Fisher) thought the Club should endeavour to utilise the visit of Col. Carre to Waikalo. The next meeting of the Club was on the 22nd proximo, and as the Colonel had expressed his intention of attending the horse parade on the lilth, he could perhaps be persuaded to lengthen his stay, and read a paper on horso breeding at the September meeting. He had been told that Col Carre was one of the best judges extant of horse llesh, and that horse breeding was his pet hobby; and if such wero tho case they could rely upon him being able to impart a quantity of useful and instructive information.—lt was unanimously resolved that the Secretary communicate with Gil. Carre and respectfully ask him to grant the request of the Club, and read a paper or give an address on horse-breeding and management. FiNANCK.—The notice of motion, re finance, standing in Mr Thos. Wells' name, was, at his request, referred to tho executive committee aud himself, to report upon at the next meeting ; Mr Wells stating that the majority of those present had come to discuss sheep breeding, and therefore ho would not. take up their time with finance. SllKKf UitßKDlNii.— A very able paper ou sheep-breeding and feeding was read by Mr S. Seddon of (iorton. We fully recognise the importance of this subject to Waikato farmers ; but as we cannot afford space in our ordinary issue to do justice to Mr Seddon's paper and tho subsequent discussion, we have been reluctantly compelled to relegate it to our next week's supplement. We may state th.it Mr Seddon's paper not only contained much that was useful, but provoked a discussion that elicited many valuable facts in connection with the subject of sheep-breeding and feeding.
