At the hide sale on Tuesday tlio improved values obtained the previous weok were fully sustained, ox hides, ranging from (iO's to 70's, brought from 3|d to 3|d, above thnso weights, from Id to -tjd ; calfskins, 3d to 4Ad ; cows and light ox, from Ud to 2 H rd the lb ; tallow, His the ewe; butchers' sheepskins, from Gs (id to 4s; station skins, Is fid to f>s each; locks and wool, 4d to (j)d the lb. At Remuera, on Thursday, dairy cattle, in less than usual number, were required, and for choice animals an advance of from 10s each was obtained. Store cattle were also in demand nt full values. Fat cattle, of good quality, wore in short supply, and an advance of 10s obtained over last week's values, but those not well finished were no better worth. Sheop, in usual supply, were steady at last week's values: 2jd for wethors ; 34, d for owes. Young fat calves sold at extreme prices, but no improvement on big calves. Pigs : Plentiful; generally of fair to good prices without alteration from late markets. We quote :—Oats, Is lOd to 2s per bushel ; barluy, 2s Id to 2s 7d ; maize, 3s (id ; wheat, 3s 3d ; bran, £3 10s to £4 per ton ; chaff, £1 10s to £2 15s per ton. Horses : Very few strange horses have been brought forward, and there remains an unsatisfied enquiry for those of good stamp at higher values. About tho usual number were entered for sale by auction at the Durham Yards on Friday, and with few exceptions found purchaseis at the previous week's values. Wool, hides, skins, &c. : There was rather a small number of hides pitched at tho Durham Yards on Tuesday, but a largo one of skins, and there was an improved demand. Cattle: The number brought forward in all classes has scarcely been sufficient for requirements, and there has been an upward tendency in value. At Newmarket on Tuesday there was an increased muster of dairy cows and very few stores. Fat blasts wore fairly represented. Competition was steady throughout the sale. Dairy cows sold at from £3 lOj 11 £5 ss. Prices for fat beasts fluctuated, top sorts selling relatively higher, ox bocF ranging from 15s to l'Js per 1001 b ; cows, 12s to His per 1001b. Oats (free): Since last writing the market has been characterised by extreme dullness, and sales of anything like "lines'" have been almost impossible to effect. The arrivals of Into have continued heavy, and this has tended to depress the market still further, and vie do not look for any decided improvement for some little timo to come. For best samples of bright stout feed oats 2s is at present full value, inferior and discoloured sorts ruling in proportion. Cheese (duty 2d per lb): The market continues fully supplied, and wo quote locallymade cheeso at up to \\i], some favoured factories' makes commanding 5d per lb. The market is bare of New Zealand cheese. Hams (duly 2d per lb): Supplies rule light, and we again quote best Now Zealand light weight hams at Is per lb. Racon (duty 2d per lb): Continues scarce, and we again quoto prime New Zealand bacon at up to lOd per lb. Potatoes (free) : The market has of late fluctuated considerably, according to supplies to hand, and somo short time back Xew Zealand potatoes, owing to a glutted market, ruled down to £3 5s per ton. An improvement in values has, howover, taken place dining the past week, and we to-day quote best New Zealands at up to £1 per ton, and should future shipments not be excessive, we look to present prices being well maintained. Tasmanian kinds are quoted at from £3 10s to £1, according to condition.
