OUR BOROUGH ROADS.
TO TIIH KIHI'OR. Sin,—Will you kindly allo-v me an " Englishman's privilege," in your valuable columns, and that is " to growl" at the disgraceful state of our roads. After having allowed them to got into such a state, how in the world can one mm be expected to put them in order ? Poor old Peacock ! I often pity him—at it all hours, and in all weathers, a man with more go in him than most of our C luncillors put together, expected to do tho work that threo good men should bo put on to do, until tho roads are in a decent state. I have occasion to go towards the hospital now and again, and the road at the foot of Dr. Kenny's hill is simply dangerous for traps and horses ; it is more like a swamp road, and many are as bad or worse even. Surely that august, body, '• The Works Committee," cannot be awaie of the whereabouts of many of mi; roads judging fimil tho state they are in, or if they are, then all I can say is, that they should bo compelled to do three months' hard labour mending them- Pity some of them do not stick to their own callings, for which they aro better lilted than the management of Borough alfai.-s ; but perhaps iii a business point of view it pays. — 1 am. etc., < IIiOWI.KIi.
