It is reported here that the Freezing Works at Waitara have been purchased by Messrs Nelson Bros., Napier, who intend re-opening them at an early date. The price paid the Loan Company is stated to be £5,000. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. A resident communicates to the Star the confirmation to the confession of P. Williams, who accuses himself of stealing £2,000 from Joshua Vines, on the Victorian diggings. The affair happened at Creswick. Williams deposited in the bank a parcel of nails, lead, etc., instead of the gold entrusted to him. TIMARU, Last Night. At the inquest on the body found in the harbour on Wednesday it'proved to be that of Mr Geo. Priest, a grain buyer and commission agent, who left home on the 25th ult. Deceased was in financial difficulties through unsuccessful grain speculation. A verdict of "Found drowned " was returned. GISBORNE, Last Night. Mr Kelly, M.H.R. for Tauranga, intends to stand for the East Coast electorate, in opposition to Mr Arthur, and probably to Mr W. L. Rees. A meeting of the South Pacific Petroleum Company will be held in Sydney, to consider whether the work, shall be continued, or the Compauy go into liquidation.
