Each man was to bring his share of wine, and pour it into a cask quietly at night. The next morning the cask was decorated with wreaths and flowers. Glasses were brought, and with cries of "Vive M'sieu 1' Abbci!" all stood round to drink his health ; his old housekeeper turned the tap, and drew out the first glass, but miracle of miracles, tbe wine had became pure white water!
