THE AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS.
This Times of April 4, in an article on the 'lhe Coming Cricket .Season," says:— When the first news of the probable constitution of the seventh Australian team reached England there seemed a chance of its equalling in strength that of 18S2. Although Messrs Giffen, Moses, and Bannerman are not to form part of the side there will be a freshness in the eleven that may compensate for thoir absence. All real lovers of cricket will welcome the reappearance of Mr W. L. Murdoch, not only as a cricketer, but as a tactician. Whatever may be tho results of their visit one thing is quite certain, that they can play an uphill game <with great determination. The other members of the team who have been to England are Messrs C. T. B. Turner, S. P. Jones, J. J. Ferris, J, 0, Blackham > J. <T. Lyons, 11. Trott, and H. 1. Boyle (manager). These are all players of tried ability. Victoria furnishes three new men—Messrs Trumble, l< , . H. H. Walters, and J. E. Barret; Now South Wales, two—Messrs P. C. Charlton and S. Gregory; and Tasmania one—Mr K. Barn. Messrs Charlton, Barret, Gregory, and Hum come with a high reputation for batting, and Mr Trumble, a brother of J. W, Trumble, who was here in ISS(>, was very successful as a bowler in their last soasan. The Australian matches will doubtless attract as much attention as ever, Three representative fixtures have been arranged to be played at Lords, Manchester, and Keimington Oval. The Players of England will bo met at Lord's and Sheffield, and the North and South of England at Manchester, the Oval, and Hastings. At Sheffield Park they play their opening match against Lord Sheffield's Eleven, while their first London fixture will be against Surrey at the Oval. Residents in the metropolis will'have plenty of opportunities of seeing the Australians, as, in addition to the Lord's and Oval matches, they will pl ay Kent at Blaskheath, the Lyric Club at Barnes, the Universities Past and Present at Leyton, and the Hurst Park Club and Ground at Hurst Park. All the leading countiee have ono, and some of them two matches with the Australians, who figure too in the vaiious festivals at Canterbury, Cheltenham, Scarborough, aud Hastings. At Portsmouth they will oppose an eleven of Oxford and Cambridge (Past and Present).
