SOUTH AUCKLAND RACING CLUB.
THE LATE PROTEST. A meeting of the stewards of the South Auckland Racing Club was held last night, to consider the protests in the Flying Stakes and Autumn Handicap, lodged by Mr Walters. The Secretary, Mr Carter, informed the stewards that prior to the Takaptina Meeting, Mr Walters had withdrawn his protest in the Autumn Handicap, in order to enable him to run his horse Pintire as a maiden at that meeting, and that in the matter of the protest in the Flying Stakes, he had that day received a letter withdrawing the protest in this event also. After going thoroughly into the matter, the stewards decided that Mr Kean had forfeited his right to the Autumn Handicap stakes, through failing to carry his proper weight; and as Mr Walters had withdrawn his claim to them, as stated above, they suggested to the committee of the Club that the most desirable plan to dispose of the stakes would be to offer them at their summer meeting in December, to be run for as a Protest Stakes Handicap, nomination and acceptance being free.
