FATAL ACCIDENT AT HAMILTON.
It is our melancholy duty to record a distressing anil filial accident, which occurred to Mr George Edmonds, of Claudelands, on Tuesday night. The deceased, in mounting his horse near MrLe Quesne's, in some way over-balanced himself, falling heavily upon his head. Hβ was carried into tho Waikato Hotel in an unconscious state. Dr. Murch was sent for, and after the usual remedtes had been applied, the deceased partially regained consciousness. He was removed to his home at Claudeland3 early yesterday morning, and Dr. Kenny was called in, who found that deceased was suffering from severe concussion of the brain, and held out little hope of his recovery. He never regained consciousness, and passed away about 6 o'clock last nieht. An inquest will be held at 10 a.m. to-day. The deceased was a hard-working industrious settler, and a good practical ' farmer, and will be much missed in the neighbourhood. He was held in high esteem by all who knew him. Previous to his becoming a resident in Waikato, now about four years, he lived iu the Canterbury province, being one of the fortunate early settlers there, where he acquired considerable property. The deceased leavee a wife and a family of eight children, some of whom are fortunately grown up. Much sympathy is felt for the family in their sudden sad bereavement. The late Mr Edmonds was a mason high up in tho craft, and a member of rhe Lodge Beta. In all probability the brethren will accord him a masonic funeral.
