TE AWAMUTU LICENSING DISTRICT.
» TO IKE EDITOR. Sir,—Permit me through your valuable paper to draw the attention of the public of To Awamutu to the fact that in a week or two an application will bi made to the Licensing Commissioners of the district to grant a license for the Commercial Hotel here (which has been closed for the last year). Now, sir, I think that the past experience of this house is sufficient to prove that two hotels are not required here, and that if the business of the past, which in some cases, under careful management, could not make the house in question pay, when times were moro prosperous, it is evident that it cannot be done now. I have never heard that the present licensed house is too small or insufficient for the accommodation of the travelling public, or that the drinking department requires enlarging, or that the house is not conducted in a proper manner. Now, if these statements be true, and I believe they are, thnn I trust the commissioners will bo guided in their decision as to the granting of a license for the hotel in question ; on the grounds, is it necessary ? and will it conduce to the welfare of the people they represent ? If not, theu I hopo they will be true to the trust reposed in them, and refuse to grant a license.—Yours, &c, Lux. Te Awamutu, May 2(>.
