THE NEW GRAND LODGE. BT TELEGRAPH. —PKKSS ASSOCIATION J. Chhistchurch, Last Night. The opening of the Grand Lodge last night, was a great success. The attendance was confined to the enrolled members of the Grand Lodge, and sixty-three from all parts of the colony were present. The ceremony was simple, but impressive, and after the proclamation the business was proceeded with, and Bro. Thomson's election as Grand Master was confirmed by acclamation, and according to previous arrangement all the offices were filled by nnaminous consent. The basis of Union agreed to by convention was adopted provisionally with a few slight alterations in two articles. The Rev. Brother Ronaldson was appointed Grand Secretary, at a salary of £250, to live at Christchurch, and Brothers Gillon, Hamerton. and D. Robertson were appointed to prepare a draft of constitution for the consideration of the board of general purposes, and the subordinate lodges, before coining on in the Grand Lodge. Hearty congratulations were received by telegraph from vario«s parts of the colony, including several lodges not previously associated with the movement. The utmost harmony prevailed, and the proceedings have given great satisfaction to all concerned. The installation of the Grand Master to-night is likely to be a magnificent cereunny, and immense preparations have been made. Bro. Gillon is Installing Officer. Great enthusiasm prevails here, and Bro. Malcolm Nicol's acceptance of office in the Grand Lodge aR superintendent of the Auckland district, gives great satisfaction. The Articles of Union were altered to enable ten lodges to form a Provincial Grand Lodge if desired. Bro. A. S. Russell's appointment as Deputy Grand Master is vtsry popular.
