A sculling race between Gv Bubear, ex-champion of England, [and R Brown, of the Clarence River, for £100 a-side, took place on the Parramatta River this afternoon. Nearing Gladesville Brown got into Bubear's water. The latter put on a desperate spurt, and steered down on Brown, who endeavoured to get away, but Bubear completely cornered and fouled Biowu, who passed the post six lengths ahead. Time, 22m. 15s,eca. The race was awarded to Bubear on the foul, but the crowd hooted him for his tactics. Melbourne. April '24. William Warden Couch has been sentenced to death for the murder of William liam Xrevethick, au elderly man, employed by the United Devonshire Gold Mining Company, Eaglehawk, Sandhurst, on the night of 3rd December. Deceased was night watchman at the mine, and Couch murdered him in order to steal the plates from the quartz crushing batteries. Adelaide, April 24.
