THE FROZEN MEAT PROBLEM.
TO TIIK EDITOR. Sill, —I have an idea on the above subject, and always had the same ; turn the matter over in every way I always come back to the same point, and that is, cattle, sheep, and lambs should be slaughtered as near as possible to the pasture and to think of driving sheep over to Tauranga to be slaughtered is contrary to common sense. It is all very well for people to talk in a clnb-rooni about driving fat, mind I say fat sheep, over to Tauranga, but to do it successfully is quite another thing. By all means let the industry be started over there and get sheep as far as they can, but I think it would ba more to the interest of the Waikato farmers if Messrs Nelson Bros, would bring their hulk round to Auckland, and make her fast to the railway pier, at a time of year that may be agreed upon. Should they do so the whole province could contribute their quota of fat stock. The stock in Waikato could be slaughtered here, and sent down in bags straight on board the hulk. This in my opinion is the most practicable way, and the only one likely to be successful ; but as I am not a member of the Farmer's Club perhaps I ought not to have spoken.—l am, yours, Qi Ki
