SPORTING.

South Auckland Racing Club.

The South Auckland Racining Club hold their Autumn Meeting on the Claudeland s Course to-day. E»erything that mortals can commend has been done to ensure success, and it only remains for those who wish to enjoy a good day's sport to pray fervently for fine weather ; as I write tins there is every appearance of a fine day however. The course is in beautiful going order, though perhaps heavier than it has been on former occasions, so we may not expect to see such fast times as lnthertoforo. Hunter's Band, from Auckland, will be present and discourse sweet music between the events. I will endeavour to pick a few of the winners for the benefit of the readers of The Waikato Times, though I must confess the handicappers have succeeded in shrouding them pretty successfully, added to which there is always a doubt as to what will start up to the last moment- in meetings like the one under notice. _ ~ The programme opens with the xiauuicap Hurdles, and of the four likely to face the flag I cannot see anything to beat Dick Turpin if he should be sent for this event though his owner may save him for the Steeples, in which he has a big say ; failing him I should select Hickey's selected. For the Welter Cup there are nine numbered on the card and I fancy Thy Fluke's chance most, with the Gilderoy filly to run up. For the Autumn Handicap a certain amount of mystery exists in regard to the movements of Loch Ness. If he starts 1 shall expect to see him romp home. Failing him the race bears a very open appearance, St. Michael is a much improved horse since last seen on this course, and is in good hands. I shall pick him to supply the winner, with Pinfike and Memorandum to fill the places. For the Steeplechase seven horses are left in, and if Magnesia is in anything like her old form she should have no difficulty in disposing of her field, but I have suspicions as to her condition. The country will not trouble her. Surprise, if a good rider is I jut up, will have a big say, and should win. Diok Tuupin, if saved for this, will also run a big horse, and I expect the winner to come from these three. Orange Lightning, though a sure jumper, is too slow, in my opinion, for such rosy company. Shamrock, Peter and Carronaae I cannot stand. When all is over I fancy the verdict will be —Dick Turpin, Surprise and Magnesia. The Pony Race, well you might as soon look for the proverbial needle in a bundle of hay as try and pick the winner in such a bunch, but, if the going is anything like sound, I shall expect to see the top-weight Grace Darling catch the judge's eye first. For the Cladelands Handicap there will be a big field and the finish will be fought out between Tamora, Pinfiiie, and Hailstone, and I will take thein in that order. Billy shouid win the Novel Race, with Bon and Fisherman as his closest atten-

dants. The Flying Stakes will, I fancy, fall to the top weight, St. Michael, and I will select Pini'ire and Memorandum to fill the places. Peliiam.

" Martingale " tips the following horses: Hurd!es. —This event should fall to Dick Turpin or Larrikin. Steeples.—l shall select Surprise to win with Magnesia well up. Autumn Handicap : Loch Ness or Leila should supply the winner. Galloway Race.—This is rather a difficult race to deal with, but I fancy the winner will be found in either Bang or Contempt. Claudeland's Handicap.—This event will lay between Loch Ness and Haricot, the former for choice. Welter Cup. — Whatever beats Yum Yum should win. Novel Race.—For this event I shall give my vote to Bob. Flying Stakes.—l think this event lays between Lottery and Grace Darling.

The following horses entered for the races to-day were in Hamilton last night:— Medusa, Dick Turpin, Wideawake, Peter, Magnesia, Fisherman, Memorandum, Try Flnke, Leila, Orange Lightning, Surprise, Lottery, Bob, Billy, Yum Yum, Freshfield, Gilderoy Filly, Tamora, St. Michael, Pinfire, Hailstone, Virginia, Grace Darling, Too Soon, Deception, Little Mary, Bang, Valentine, Reuben, Antic, Lupin, Security, Topsy and Premier.
