HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual monthly meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday night at 7'30. There were present His Worship the Mayor, Mr I. Coates, in the chair, Crs. Jones, Parr, Bell, Davey, Wood, Salmon, Tippen, and Dey. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The Governor's Late Visit.—lt was resolved that the action of the Mayor in connection with the late vice-regal visit be confirmed and that a copy of the address be inserted in the minutes. Band Instruments.—-A letter was received from Mr G. P. Metteam offering to form a town band, if he were given the nee of the instruments, which at present were vested in the Hamilton Light Infantry. The clerk was instructed to see Captain Reid, of the volunteers, and report at the next meeting. Railway Crossing.—Mrs M. Wright wrote asking the Council to repair the railway crossing near her place. She had written to the Hamilton Road Board but they referred her to the Borough Council. It was resolved to write to the District Engineer calling his attention to the matter. , Resignation.—Mr D. Lees, dog registrar, sent in his resignation in consequence of leaving the colony. The resignation was accepted. Poll of Burgesses.—The returning officer reported the result of the poll of burgesses for the purpose of deciding whether £1000.should be transferred from special fund account to general account in order to enable the Borough to pay off overdraft, and to lend the Domain Board sufficient to pay off theirs. The voting was 34 for the proposal and 10 against. Crown Lands.—The Paymaster-General reported having placed the sum of £2 17s to the credit of the borough in payment of rates for Crown Lands. Baths.—The caretaker of the baths wrote saying that as the season was ended, he would continue the care of the baths if allowed to charge the sum of Id admission. The offer was accepted. Galloway-stbeet Draw.—Mγ Hugh Kelly wrote asking the Council to do something to the drain in front of his place, as he could not drive in.—Or. Salmon proposed, and Cr. Davey seconded, that it be referred to the foreman of works.—Cr. Bell moved as an amendment, that it be referred to the Works Committee, with power to act. Seconded by Cr. Dey. The amendment was put and carried, the original motion being lost. Reports.—The usual monthly report? were read, and received from the Works Committee, Poundkeeper, and Dog Registrar.
Accounts.—Accounts to the amount of £7 17s Oid were passed for payment. Gbavbl "Pit.—On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cγ. Jones, it was resolved to spend 30s in the formation of a dray track, t» open a gravel pit on Hilsboro Terrace. Allotments.— The Mayor proposed, and Cr. .Tones seconded, that part of allotment 411, East, containing half an acre, and known as sub-section a, be put up for auction at an upset price of £2 10s, for 14 years.—Carried. Bve-Laws.—lt was resolved to supply the police with copies of bye-laws, in order that they may prosecute with regard to the regulation of traffic. • Libkary Committee.— Cγ. 801 l and Mr P. E. Stevens wero elected to fill the vacancies in the Library Committee. Cor.LINGWOOD-SIREKT DRAIN. —It Was resolved to spend the sum of £1 on this drain, the work to be done under the supervision of Cr. Wood. Notice of Motion.—The mayor gave notice to move that a resolution of 10th December be rescinded with the view of j substituting the following:—"That the sum of 2s be paid to the registrar for each dog for the balance of the year and that Mr ManUtelow be appointed dog registrar, and that his house, Cambridge road, be appointed the office for registration of dogs." This concluded the business.
