Aitke-n-'k Mahkkt Report for the week ending April oth : During the week three sales of produce, fruit, .etc., have been held, with satisfactory result-. Potatoes of prime quality short of requirements at £3 os to £3 15s; Waikato lots sell on arrival at £3 10s; indifferent lots, £2 to £3; onions in excess of demand at gd to i'd ; bran and sharps, £4 to £5; wheat, in good demand at 3s (none on hand); pats, Is lOd to 2s 4d ; maize, none ; carrots, 2s (id • cow potatoes, 30s; mangolds, 30s. Bacon and hams (only Southern): Seconds, (id; first quality, Sd. Butter: Fair supply of fresh at lOd to lOJd; keg butter, extra prime quality, in demand at 7d; other kinds, 3d to'4d; old, to 2d. Eggs: Increased quantities to hand; prices ruled Irom la 3d to Is Od, and the tendency is lownwards. Large quantities of Island ruits have came forward, and have been sold at very low prices ; bananas and orangoa only realise a trifle over the cost of fi eight. Bananas, Is 2d to Is 9d per bunch ; orunges, glutted, and slow of sale at 3s to 4s per case of 10 dozen. The supply of local fruit has been large, but little alteration in values all round. First-class cooking apples, ;Jd to ljd ; others, to §d ; dessert, ordinary, Id to IJd; very choice, to 2d; pears, Beurre Bois, to 3Jd ; Beurre Dial, lfd to 2sd ; cooking kinds, ljd to 2d ; inferior lots, fd to Id; peaches, Gd to Is 9d per dozen, and 2Jd to 4d per lb: grapes, none ; passion fruit, ljd to 2W ; figs, Jd to 2d per dozen ; lemons, 5d to !)M per dozen, according to size ; quinces, Jd to Id ; medlars, ,jd. The poultry department was largely supplied with all sorts, and prices all round were lower. Fowls realised Is to Is 8d ; ducks, Is (id to Is lOd; geese, 2s to 3s; turkeys, 2s 4d to 5s Gd ; roosters, young, in condition, Is 7d to 2s; small and old fowls, 8d to Is each. Pigs, 5s to Bs.
MARKET REPORTS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report as under '•— Christchuroh, March 14. — Wheat: During the week samples have been freely offered, and a considerable amount of business has transpired at current rates. Many growers are disposed to risk shipping to the Old Country, but present scarcity of tonnage preventß this outlet being availed of to any great extent, and values remain fairly, steady. Purchases are chiefly for speculation, or in fulfilment of Australian orders. Values to-day are—Hunter's, 2s to 2s, 8d ; Pearl, 2s to 2s 9d ; Tuscan, 2s lUd to'Sss lO.jd per "bushel, sacks extra, f.o.b. Oats: The local market is quiet, and in many instances growers preferring storing in the hope of better values later on. Sales have been made at—for milling, Is Gd ; stout feed, Is 4d to Is 5d ; ordinary, Is 3d ; sacks and coat ex store to be added. Ryegrass: Samples are now ottering more freely. Clean, heavy undressed lots bring 2s Gd to 3s Gd, and machine dressed 4s Gd and 4s 9d per bushel, sacks extra. Cocksfoot : The market is stroDg, and a largo business has been done during the woek. Growers' undressed lots make 2id to 3d, and heavy machine-dressed seed is worth 3d to lUd per lb, sacks extra. LONDON COMMERCIAL. [UY ELECTRIC TELKORAI'JI—COPYRIGHT). London, April 4.—Hides are in poor demand, and in buyers' favour. New Zealand hemp is depressed; fair quality, £22; ordinary, £18. Money is plentiful, and a prospect of floating loans favourable, provided the amount placed is not too large. New Zealand mutton, 4jd per IV); lamb, 7d ; Sydney mutton, 4.jd ; New Zealand beef, 4|d. New Zealand per cent, stock. 98J. London, April s.—There has been a general decline of 3d in the English wheat market. The continental market is dull, and the American steady. Sellers are asking 34s 9d for Australian wheat on passage, but buyers will not give more than 34s 3d. New Zealand butter, OGs; cheese, best quality, averages 48s.—The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company report under the same date :—Frozen meat: Mutton market quiet. Canterbury mutton is 4Jd, and Wellington 4Jd per lb. Beef rtiarket better. New Zealand hemp: Market weaker. Medium is worth £20 per ton. -
