SAD FATALITY AT KIHIKIHI.
Mrs Louisa Potts, of Kimkihi, died in child birth yesterday. Dr Pnirman had quitted the district in the •doming, and Dr. Cushney was telegraphed for from Cambridge, but although that gontleman came without the slightest loss of time, death had ensued before his arrival. Mr Gresham, . the district coroner, held an inquest on Sunday morning, it being imperative that Dr. Cushney should return to Cambridge, and his .evidence was necessary at the inquest. A jury of six were empaonelled, with Mr Dinneen as foreman. The evidence of Mrs Kerr, the midwife, and of Mrs Kennelly, tended to show that nothing had been neglected, but the medical evidence showed that it was a case in which a doctor should have been present from the first. A verdict in accordance with the evidence- was returned, and those who were present at the death were exonerated from all blame. Mis Potts was only twenty : t wo years of age, and this was her third confinement. It is to be hoped that a medical man' will be speedily established at Te Awamutu, as a very good practice is open .to any competent practitioner.
