RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT, CAMBRIDGE.
Thursday.— (Before Captain Jackson, R.M.) UstMi Thukai'BSlng Lanodaoe. —Tlma. Hiirtly applied to have R. B. Fitzpatrick bound over to keep the peace. The complainant is our Cambridge reporter, anil during a paper warfare with the defendant, used several quotations that exasperated him. Defendant to»k the quotation: "Thou mightier fool inferior idiots spare," which is often used in controversies, to be a personal insult, and demanded its withdrawal. Complainant declined to do so, hence the threat. After a quantity of evidence had been taken, comolainant withdrew the case, defendant admitting that he had been misled, and the difficulty had arisen through a misunderstanding. Rohkii'l'.son v. Silt W. Wasteneys and F. J. Coleman.— Claim £10 5s for a dishonoured cheque. In this case the Magistrate ruled that Sir \V. YVastennys, who signed the cheque as attorney for a Mr Cockerton, was not liable, but that Coleman, who endorsed it, was, aud judgment was therefore given against him. This is particularly hard upon Coleman, as at the last Court the Baronet undertook to see the matter settled. VV. H. Wkstby v. J.vo. Finnerty.— Claim £3. Mr J. Hally ' appeared for plaintiff, and \V. M. Hay for defendant. The claim was for clerical work in connection with a grant under the " Military Settlers Act." A r ery voluminous evidence was taken, the Magistrate remarking there .was :v portion of it that was perjury on one side or the other. Judgment for £1, and costs £2 4s lid. William Vosper was charged with killing a heifer, the property of ltd. Reynolds, of Pukekura. The police asked for a remand until the Bth instant .at noon. Accused was admitted to bail, Messrs \V. Allen and C. Roberts being sureties.
