Henry Fouquier, the .well known chroniqueur, who wag returned for the first time at the general elections, put some questions to M, Tiratd respecting the telephone service, which he said did not work quite as well as it should, and, in the courne of his remarks, related soma amusing anecdotes. Thin, he told how a newly-married couple had been woke up at seven o'clock in the morning by tho telephone signal, and how the husband, who was a banker, on hurrying to inquire the cause of this ahirm, had been coolly informed that all this fuss had been made for the simple purpose of ascertaining wh ether the telephone was in good order, On another occasion, when the manager of a theatre asked to bo put into immediate communication with someone as the business . was urgent, a shrill voice replied, " If you are in a hurry take a cab !" M. Tirard, however, maintained that the women employed in the service were very civil, and said that they were often treated to rude and foul language by subscriber*. The President of the Council added that the telephone system was being steadily improved and deloped, and the matter was then allowed to drop.
