WELLINGTON-MANAWATU RAILWAY COMPANY.
« A SUCCESSFUL'YEAR: (by TKLEORAra—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) j. Wellington, Thursday. Ax the annual meeting of the WellingtonManawntu Railway Company, the annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. The Chairman, in moving their adoption, ventured to express an opinion that the present annual statement of accounts marked an epoch in the company's history. Hitherto each year's statement had consisted mainly of sheets of accounts, showing the.(subscribed capital and borrowed money,. which . had been expended. This year, however, they had proof that the earning of the railway and income derived from the mortgage were sufficient to defray the vyhole charges for the year, and to leave a surplus: of £5,070 available for dividend purposes, which amount the directors reeomnjended be carried forward. A disousaion took place over the proposed paymenrot tne oonds to Mr Higginsbn, engineer, who had charge of the construction of the line, and the question was deferred to a special* meeting. Messrs Jas. Smith and G. MacCarthy were re-elected directors.
