RAILWAY COMMISSIONERS SUED FOR DAMAGES.

[BY TELEGBAPH.—I'HESS ASSOCIATION.] Chsistchurch, Last Night. . At the Supreme Court to-day, John Burcell, a seaman belonging to the s.h. Jubilee eued the Railway Commissioners for £2000 damages. Ho was .engaged handling cargo on the wharf last August vvhon an accident tool; place, by which his log was badly broken, and subsequently amputated. He alleged that the injury was caused through the negligent working of a Government railway truck, which was brought into contact with the gangway and caused it to crush him between the gangway and the shoot used for boarding vessels, whereby his leg was crushed and broken. Defendants deny any negligence, and eay the'accident was caused by the-plaintiff's' carelessness. The case is not finished yet.
