In the first half-mile Rudolph had a. lead of twenty lenerths, with MgJob "lying second* whilst , fo.ur lengths off'-'"Was ■ Carbiiie,' and bbhihd him Dreadnought, two lengths away. Going along by the river the latter raced up to Carbine, but it was not till the abattoirs were reached that any great difference wa« i made in Rudolph's advantage. At the scraping sheds the trio closed on the leader, , and here, the real issue beginning, Rudolph died «away-' rapidly, : and Dreadnought was • first to land in the straight, followed by Melos and Carbine. Half-way up the straight, Carbine made his effort, but O'Brien endeavoured to get up on the insido, and his horse was blocked ; and Dreadnought finally yielditiß in the last hundred yards. Melos scored a splendid victory by a lencth and a-half. Carbine being third, half a-longtii behind Dreadnought. Time, sm. 51k. The last mile and a-tulf of the race was run in 2m. 44is.
