At the Police Court this morning, before Dr. Gilea, Thomas Givney was chanted with unlawfully ;md maliciously wounding a dog nt Onehunga, the property of Henry Harris. The evidence showed that Givney .struck the dog twice with a billhook, inflicting painful wounds. After hearing the evidence for the defence, His A'orship commented on the brutality of the attack on the dog and sentenced the accused to,; 14 cifiys' imprisonment with hard labour, and to pay costs.
