Thk Public Hall.-The auction sale of the Ptieroit Public Hall took plaGfi on Tuesday afternoon «t 230 p.m., Mr Edwards wielding the hammer. There was a great deal nf interest eiincod in the sale and a number of_ prnte-ts were made by shareholders against thosuleevent'inting under the c<->nditi"iis for the renewal of the lease. The lease of the hall has hut 10 months to run, and Messrs Jackson and Russell have imposed most drastic conditions on the renewal of the louse, not the worst of which is that the parties who buy it will only be granted the extension of'l9 year* on the understanding that, a company be formed of Pueroa residents t" I'nild a new hall on tho site at a cost of £350. Mr J. Phillips purchased the hull for £'41. the Beats and chandeliers for £5, anil th" remains of what wus once a piano for £4 on behalf of n local syndicate.
