(BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Last M.ht. Che strong south east wind which prevailed on Sunday, fanned the smouldering bush fires into flame along the mountain road aad district encircling New Plymouth. The wind increased to t gale on Sunday night and caused great ii« ruction of feed; and houses and ini-.ljjrs are endangered. The town is yloomy with smoke and fire ash, carried over from the fires. DUNEDIN, Last Night. The Dtuiediu Times says owing to Sir Robert Stout having abandoned his intention ot visiting England on account of business engagements, strenous efforts are being made to induce him to re-enter political life.
WELLINGTON, Last Night. Kain has set in at last, not heavy at present but had it not curae, Wellington would soon have beau reduced to condensed milk, as the pastures are failing rapidly, and the water supply is running short, With the exception of one light shower, there has been no rain here for many weeks.
PATEA, Last Night. A sad accident happened on the Waverly beach yesterday, a party went to the sea for a bathe, when a boy named Kirk got out of his depth, a brother weut to his assistance but was carried by under current on to the rocks he got entangled in the seaweed, a youth named .Robinson went to his assistance, and also got entangled, both the latter were drowned, only one body has yet neen recovered.
