LABOUR CONFERENCE

(3Y electric telegraph—copyright). London, February 25. Replying to a question in the House of Commons to-day, Sir •James Fergusson stated that England would agree to examine the questions submitted to the Berlin Labour Conference affecting the welfare of the working class, so far as they were in accordance with English law. The amendment to the Address-in-Reply by Mr Cunningham-Gra-ham, insisting that the question of shortening the hours of labour should be discussed at the Berlin Conference, was rejected by a majority of 111. Mr Bradlaugh opposed it. Lord Churchill quoted the state of labour in Australia, and advised the Tories to show more sympathy with workmen. The report of the Sweating Commission is of a colourless character. Lord Dunraven protests against it, Berlin, February 26. Probably, in deference to Eng land, the question of limitation of hours of labour will be excluded from the discussions at the Labour Conference. The date of the Labour Conference has been fixed for March 15. The German Minister of Commerce will preside. Paris, February 27. It is understood that M. Jules Simon will represent France at the Berlin Conference.
