NATIVE LAND COMMISSIONER.

(by telegraph—frkss association). Wellington, Last Night. The office of Commissioner under the Native Lands Act of last session has been offered to, and will probably tiu accepted by, Mr W. B. Edwards of the legal firm of Moorhouse and Edwards, in this city. The commissioner will have all the powers of the Supreme Court judge, and will probably fill the first vacancy 011 the Supreme Court bench when his work as commissioner is completed. The work on hand may take some years to get through, but the Government has thought it advisable that the post of commissioner should be occupied by a person who has the standing of the Supreme Court jndee.
