Auckland, Last Night. L\ Grippe, as the Austrian influenza is culled, has become a terrible scourge in America, as well as Europe. Four thousand deaths had occurred in Paris for the week ending December 28, a largo proportion being due to this disease. There were 200 deaths from hauUoic. Cases are increasing through North-eastern France. An autopsy on a subject at Versailles showed the state of the lungs to be exactly similar to that in cows which have died from rinder pest. The cpidemic is reported on the increase in Russia. In America the disease is spreading in every direction, being particularly severe in Canada. In this country (England), pneumonia seems to follow in many cases an. attack of "La Grippe." Deaths occurred from it in Boston, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Troy and other places. The form of the disease is described as follows -.—ln somo instances there are fever and heuduclie with severe gastric pains which quinine and antipyrin fail to cure ; in such cases the disease developes into typhoid with generally fatal results.
