WAIKATO DISTRICT HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

Tub usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held at the Borough Council Chambers, at noon yesterday. There were present: Messrs Primrose (chairman), Tensdale, Seddon, Davey, McPherson, Mills, and Chepmell. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence read and adopted.

Paul. —The steward to the Auckland Hospital wrote stating that Joseph Paul had been admitted into that institution as an urgent case, as he was suffering from acute bronchitis, and that a claim would be made on this Board for his treatment, as during the past two years he had been a resident at Rangiriri and Waerenga. The Secretary stated that lie had written to the Auckland Board instructing them to send Paul up to this Hospital as soon as possible. A Sao Cask.—Forbes Gordon, who at present is in the Old Men's Refuge, applied to the Board for sufficient outdoor relief to enable him tr-> obtain food to be able to live at Kihikihi, where he would bo able to earn sufficient to keep himself in clothes.—The Chairman stated that at present he was totally blind, and unable to do anything for himself. On Gordon making application to him he had told him that the Board in similar cases had offered 3s a week outdoor relief, or else the privilege of living at the Refuge.—Mr Teasdale said that he would enquire into the position of Gordon's* affair*. —Mr Seddon moved that lie be offered 3s per week as outdoor •elief, or that he remain- in the Refuge.—Seconded by Mr Davey and carried. Instruments.—The Chairman stated that the doctor had informed him that the instruments which had arrived from England were not all that were required for use at the institution, and ho consequently had to use his own. This, the chairman said, should not be, as the hospital should be properly equipped with instruments, and he thought that now would be the best time to provide them when tho Government would be contributing half their cost, it not being likely that tho subsidy will bo continued after the coming year. In addition to these extra instruments it would al-o be necessary to get some requisites without which s one of the instruments would be practically useless'. The members quite agreed with the lemi'.rlis made by the chairman, and it was resolved that the House Committee be authorised to order the instruments and surgical requisites, as suggestsd by the doctor. CAJißßinsK.—TlioTown Clerk Cambridge, wrote stating that the ratable valuo of the ratable property in the Borough of Cambridge for the year ending March otst, 1891, was £4,79") 10s'. Mhs Shaw.—Mrs Shaw was present at the meeting and nsked why it was that the washing had been taken away from her, and what she was goi;i sr to do now for the maintenance of her children. She was not able 11 procure the necessary requisites for washing, which was forced mi her, and hor relief then stopped.—The Clitirman end tho washing had not been sent to her as she riM not do it properly, ami somo chillies that he saw, which were snpposedd to have been washed twice, were not fit for use.— Mr Seddon said that they should give tho woman another chance to help her to maintain her children, and he thought the Hospital would.be better so'ved if the washing were done at-the —Mr Uhepnieli moved that id relief be granted to Mis Shaw. —Seconded by Mr Drey and carried. Tha accounts for the month of December, amounting to £120 lis 01, were in accordance with res ilutions passed at the last meeting of the Board, paid by tho Finance Committee as interim accounts. Tho expenditure for the month amounts to £208 17s Sd. \iz Water supply and drainage, £67 3s 2d ; tho balance, £141 lis Gd, being ordinary expenditure. The following amounts have been received and paid into the Bank since the last'meeting of the Board, viz :—Government subsidies, £142 19s lid ; contributions from local bodies, Wnikato county balance of account, £100 3s 9d ; Raglan county balance of account, £42 7s lid ; endowment rent, £5 ; Hospital fees, £33 lis ; salo of old windmill, &e., £6 ; rebate on insurance old Hosp'tal building, £3 Is 4d ; total, £333 3s lid. The surgical instruments received from Messrs Arnold and Sous arrived on the 28th December and were opened on the 30th in the presence of the Chairman, Mr T. G. Sandes, the doctor, and myself. They arrived in good condition with the exception of three pairs of scissors and some of the ovariotomy instruments, which were damaged by rust and which will have to bo replaced by Messrs Arnold and Sons. The lens for tho opthalmascope and a silver director charged in tho invoice had not been forwarded. Dr. McGregor, InspectorGeneral of Hospitals, visited tho Hospital on the 2nd January and expressed himself as well pleased with the state of the Ilosfiita! and its general management. William Smith was discharged from .the Retuge at his own request on the 16th ult., having obtained suitable employment from Mr A. Clements, at Cambridge. Mr Forbes Gordon, an old settler at Kiiiikihi, who had been under treatment in the Hospital for failing eyesight, was discharged thence on the 27th ult., and having applied for admission to tho Refuge was temporarily admitted subject to the approval of the Board. By direction of the Finance Committee tender-, (returnable on the 4th,January) were invited for the purchase of the windmill lately used at the Waikato Hospital. the following were received, viz : — W. F. Ball £5, and Captain McPherson £0 ; tha latter being the highest was accepted by tho Committee. At the meeting of the Finance Committee held on the Ist inst. the following resolution was passed That as the financial year will expire on the 31st March, the Board ,be requested to appoint a special committee to assist the Finance Committee in preparing estimates for hospital and charitable aid purposes for the year 1800-01 to be submitted to the Board at their meeting in March. The report was receivod and adopted, and Messrs Chspmell, Teasdale, Davey, and the Finance Committee were appointed a committee to prepare a table of estimates for the coming year. The Chairman stated that he expected there would be a surplus this year of £600.

Doctor's Report. —The doctor's monthly report was read and adopted, and on his suggestion Mr Chepmell moved that the House Committee be authorised to have a verandah erected on the east and north sides of the Fever Hospital. Seconded by Mr McPhcrson and carried.

Payments.—The following payments which wore madq as interim account's were approved : Salaries £50 Ms 4d ; Kohimarama School, £19 10s ; Mrs Mcßurney, £1 8s ; Tlios. Wells. £2; Friar, Davies, and Co., £3 10s ; Relief, £1 2s ; Knox and Ridler, [ £10 14s 10J ; Sandes and Co., £5 10* ; J. Hatrick, £2 19s Gd ; T. Qujvltrough, £4 lis ; W.
