The contract for road forming between Haugatiki and the Waitomo caven has been let to the natives. Mr Hursthouse will be in charge of the work. Otorohanga was placed in direct communication with the outside world early last week, the telephone line having being completed by the department. Mr J. W. Elli.s has been appointed officer in charge. A large bush fire is burning on biith sides of the Raglan road, near Mr Moon's place at Wuitetuna. On Sunday it was not all pleasant to have to drivo along the road, the heat and smoke being very disagreeable. A very extensive fire has been raging in the Rukuhia swamp for the last fuw clay*. Ou Sunday it had burnt up to the Tuhikaramea-Hamiltou road, and a gentleman passing over that road on Sunday had great difficulty in Retting his horse to face tho fire and smoke. We hear that the fiev- T. G. Girr, the \Vesleyan minister of the Hamilton Circuit, is to bo removed from this district to Pukekohe, and that the Rev. Mr Lawry, of To Aroha, is to be his successor. The Kev, Mr Carr is at present absent from Hamilton, being away at the Wesleyan Conference at Christchurch, and the vacancy is filled by Mr W. A, Sinclair, a student of the Three Kings. On Sunday morning last Mr Sinclair occupied the pulpit at Hamilton and preached an excellent sermon on "God is love."
