AUSTRALIAN MARKETS.

The New Zuaianrl li-iiin nnd Mercantile Agency Company (Limitud) report as under :— '

BniSBANK, January 10.—The state of trade in tho produce markets is generally ra'-her dull, business having , scarcely resumed its normal condition since the interruption canned bv the holidays, and there is therffiire lictle of interest to report. The prospects (if the colony for tho year just opened are very satisfactory from a pastoral p>int of view, feed and w.iter being plentiful. As regards the agricultural outlook, there is every indication of low prices ruling fir Homo tiino to come, and it is likely that tho quantities of produco required to be imported will be very small ks compared with former seasons. We quote prices current, ex wharf or storo as follows :— Wheat (free) : There arc no statistics available as yet of the actual yield of the local crop, but as far as can be ascertained it is far abovo the average for the last few years, although very far short of recent estiinntiw. Some fair lines have lately been landed from Sydney in execution of orders at equal t» about 2* !)d to 3*, c.f.l. There are no stocks of imported in the market at present. Oats (duty, BrJ per bushel) : Are very dull at 3.s 21 to 3s 3d for bright short fend. Dark in colour are (-jractically unsaleable, and worth (nominally) 2s 9d. Stocks are not heavy-:—Butter (duty, 3d per lb.) : Prirnest local is realising up to Ih. The market is heavily supplied with inferior descriptions for which at Id to (id is accepted :—Cheese (dut3', 3d per lb.) : Fair demand for prime new IS'ew Zealand factorv-made at B<l to for medium size, and Siffi to 9|d for small loaf. Supplies have been arriving on a liberal scale lately, but tho market is not over-stocked with prime sit present, but old cheese (of which tliore ara considerable stocks held) is quite unsaleable.

Ani'XAiDR, January 17.—Notwithstanding tlint ißli'trrmns from London report a slipMly easier market prices hera are firmly maintiiine'l, mill gales havo heen effected at 3a Gd to 3-t (i.W on truck?, Port AdeUHc, for prime samples. Inferior and shrivelled wheat are worth from 3d to 6d Iws :—O.its (duty 2.s per cental) : Salea have been effected at 2s 3d to 2s fid per bu.-hel in bond, Port Adelaide :—Cheese (duty 4i| lb.): Th« market is unchanged iit 4.1 to tyd for New Zealand :—Butter (duty 2d lb. : We rnport an improved demand fur iinnort-'-d buttor, which is worth nominally, 8d to 9d por ib. in bond.

Mklbouunh, January 22.—Advices from the country districts report increased deliveries of new wheat at the stations on tlio Northern and North-Western lines, but from the North-E.ist the .same improvement id nut noticeable. The crops as they pass through the thresher afford evidence that the ravages committed by the rust havo not bpen over-stated, and it is this fact that interferes with all immediate prospect:! of cargo business being undertaken. Later next month a little in this direction is promising, but agents and oihnrs sue very cautious about, sellii)? [larei.'ls for forward delivery to ji-i'l'sjb saii.pln. Tho town demand from miliars i< fair, but m>l; <i Menem-. Soino of the trade, hmvuviii', havo .secured f,'ood u.arccls of new up country. Them is litt.ln cb.intre in the Ki.ir.>pean markets ; quotations for February cargoes of Australian whe:(t about 3;m 3.'1, or equal to oi IM f.o.!>. Melbourne and enrrent rates of freighf.. —Wheat: A fair trade demand. Wo sold medium naw at α-i 41, and quoted priino lit 3-; (id.—Flour: Demand rather dull, but quotations are still retained at £8 to £8 5s for sttone-made, whilst roller-drc-s-ed U sold fioni £I).—Oats : A rather quieter market. At our auction sales today stout sold at 3s 1-Jd; Tartarian and Danish to 2s 10d.

ChkistchurC'H, January 24.—Wheat: The mtrket continue-' dull, an. l practically without alteration, B'y.md shipments to the Did Country few transaction!) take plicH, and all av,iil;iblo space is rapidly bespoken. To-day's values are—Tuscan 3s t> o< Id, Pearl 2-i'lOd. to 2s lid, Hunter's 2- !) I to2n 10d, f.0.b., sacks extra. Oats: L oil transtctiin.s in old -stocks aro limited, and'we have not so far heard of any busines done in new crop, thoueh one or two samples have bpen shown. Values remain at l< Gd to Is 8-i per bushel, sacks extra. Pi irley : The market at the moment is quite lifeless, new crop not yet being on offer. Nominally quotations for old aro from 2s to 3-i Gd per bushel, sacks extra. LONDON MARKETS. London-, February I.—The quantity of wool catalogued at the sales up to date- is 52,200 bales, of which 44,800 bales have bfeen sold.
