ACCIDENT TO MR STURGESS.

On Saturday afternoon last Mr Sturgess, of Puketimu, through some cause whilst harvesting, the load slipped forward upon the horses who started off, pitching Mr Sturgess under the waggon, two of the wheels going over his face injuring him considerably, but fortunately no bones were broken. It is a miracle how ho escaped with his life. I'rom further enquiries we find that the accident to Mr Spurges.s w*i reduced in severeness through some, sheaves having fallen upon him before the wheels passed over him. His head was cut in a frightful manner, but, strange to say, he wag not insensible when picked up, and ho has remained conscious up to the present. Dr. Cusliney, of Cambridge, w;in immediately sent for, and, upon his arrival, stitched up the wounds. Not a bone was fractured, and the escape is a miracle. Yesterday afternoon the doctor reported the patient to be progressing favourably. He thinks Mr Sturgess will retain his eyesight, although he has as yet been unable to examine the eyes, in consequence of the swelling. J)r Cushney does not anticipate any serious results.
