CONCERT AT ALEXANDRA.
A concert was given on Wednesday even
ing in the Public Hall on behalt of the Church of England Sunday School. The attendance was sin ill on account of the number of settlers who are away in Auckland taking part in the Jubjlee celebrations. A good programme consisting of songs, duets, tableau, and a charade were faithfully carried through. Mr Goodfellow and Mrs Helps presided at the violin and piano respectively. The duet •' Danube River," was fairly rendered by Miss Allan and Miss Finch, both ladies doing better latter on, the former in the song "Excelsior," and tho latter in singing " Coming Through the Rye," in the charade. Mr Helps was heard to advantage in the song " I'll Never Live Again," an encore was demanded when ho responded by repeating the last verso. "Y93 'Tis a Spell," was equally well Bung in the second part and was also encored. Some very pretty scenes were put before the audience in the tableaux of "Excelsior." The feature however of the evening was the charade. The followwere the characters: Pat, Mr G. Miles ; Dr Pottes, Mr Henwood; Dinnes Wild, Mr Auhin ; Mrs De Smythe, Miss Allan ; Miss De Smythe, Mis 3 Finch; and Bridget, Miss E. Wilson; each seemed to be quite at homo in their respective parts. Air Milo3 and Miss Wilson are deserving of special mention for their acting of Pat and Bridget. The concluding tableaux, Justice Truth and Wisdom, by the Misses Allan, Fiuch, and Wilson, was very appropriately arranged the only accessory wanting, in my opinion, ivas a better back ground. To Miss Allen is due tho credit of carrying the •ntertainment through so successfully. Mr C. A. Tisdall proved a most efficient chairman. Tho following is the complete programme: Overture, Piano, Mrs Helps ; duet, "Danube River," Miss Allen and Miss Finch; song, "I'll Never Love Again," (encored) Mr Helps; trio, (in character) " Modern Milkmaid," (encired) Mr Aubin, Miss Wainright, and Miss Wilson; song and tableaux, "Excelsior," (encored), Miss Allen, Miss Harper. Miss Wainright, and Mr E. Aubin ; charade, "Patrimony," song and chorus, "What Would You Have Said," Misses Allan, Finch, WilN, Wilson, and Wainright; recitation, " Captain's Whiskers," Mr Reid; tableaux, "Justice, Wisdom and Truth."
