HAMILTON LIGHT INFANTRY VOLUNTEERS.
The annual competition for the medal presented by Mr John Endeun, t > this company, was held at the range, Hamilton East, on Saturday, and resulted in Sergeant Kelly becoming entitled to hold the medal for the ensuing 3 month*. The shooting at the short range was fairly good, but at the longer ones the scores fell off considerably due to the unequal strength of the ammunition supplied, and general diaaatUf:iction was expressed at tho poor quality. We understand that Captain Reid intends to have a proper test made of this ammunition, and the result will be awaited in volunteer circle with great interest. The following are tho scores, tha ranges being 200, 500, and GOO yards, 7 shots at each range :— Sergeant Kelly 57 Lieutenant Kirk 55 Lieutenant Pearson 53 Corporal Hammond 52 Bandmaster Mettam .. 51 Private W. The various medals and the belt presented by the people of Hamilton were on exhibition yesterday, and were greatly admired. To-day they will bo shown in Mr Harkei's window, Vicloiiu-strjet. The belt, the leather work of which was done by Mr Jas. Reid, and the mountings by Mr J. B. Harker, both of Hamilton, is a handsome piece of work, and reflects £roat credit on the workmen, and will, no doubt, bo worn by the winner with great pride. The medals are those presented by Mr Jas. Harker and Col. Shepherd. Mr Harker's medal is .a handsome gold one, the design being a Maltese cross very chastely engraved, while Col. Shepherd's is of silver, with a gold centre with a marksman taking aim in relief, both medals being mounted with a bar and clasp. Messrs Morrin and Go's, cup, which was referred to a few issuoa back, will also be presentod this evening.
