♦ The Waikato Timtt Ofiee, Wednesday, CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. The New Zeatand L<an and Mercantile Agency Company, report under date, Christchurcb, December 27th. as follows : — Wheat: Since last writing, the accounts from Home have been elightly in favour of holders, but not sufficiently so as to affect the lucal market, which remwins very weak. —Oats : The market is unchanged, the demand being very limited. Prices are Is6d to la 10d, Sficki and cost ex store extra.— Dairy produce : Butter is better value, and may be quoted at 7id. Cheese up to 4£d per lb, according to size and quality. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report under date, Adelaide, December 20:—Wheat: There is a (rood demand for new wheat at 3s 5d to 3s 6d per bushel at Port Adelaide. Owing to maay of the crops being affected by rust the sample varies much, and the trrain from some districts is more or less shrivelled. Flour: Best patent roller is quoted at £915s to £10 per ton ; country superfine, £9. Cheese (duty 4d lb): New Zealand is in small supuly, and is worth 4d to 4Jd in bond. Butter (duty 2d !b): New Zealand is quoted nominally at 8d per lb for prime qualities. The season is now approaching when we anticipate a larger demand, as the supply of local butter becomes smaller. The same Agency report under date, Sydney, December 23.—Wheat (free): The market has been perfectly lifeless eince we last wrote, and no business has been possible excepting at prices so much in buyer's favour as to amount to sacrifice from the seller's point of view. Although the bulk of New Zealand stocks had been worked off before the market collapsed, several holders find themselves with balances unsold which they are at their wit's end to know what to do with. Shipment to London is being taken recourse to, and, as there appears to be little probability of the equivalent of London value being obtained here, this really seems to be the only way out of the difficulty, especially as the bulk of the balances held is not of prime milling quality, and so cannot compete with tho new season's local crop which is now offering, Prime New South Wales wheat has changed hands at 3s 0d to 3s Bd, with a cheapening tendency, while for New Zealand 3s to 3s 2d is a full quotation for the best samples offering—with no demand even at these figures, and as low as 2s 4d has been accepted at public auction for a good, sound, full-berried New Zealand wheat.—Oate (free): Since last writing the market has continued to exhibit a dropping tendency, and business of any magnitude has been impossible to effect, transactions being quite confined to retail limits. Today's quotation stands at 2e 2d for prime, bright, stout feed, inferior and discoloured sorts ruling from l< 6d upwards.— Butter (duty Id per lb): The values given in our last have been fairly well maintained •ince last writing, and we again quote :— .Local factory, 7d to 9Jd per lb. ; local separator, 6d to 8d per lb.; local dairy, 4d to 6d per lb. As soon, however, as the demand on Christmas account has subsided, we anticipate a weakening in this market.— Cheese (duty 2d per lb). : The cheese market has undergone but little or no alteration during the past few weeks, supplies of our new local still continuing to come forward freely, and we again quote same at up to (id. Best New Zealand is quoted at up to G*d.
